Northern Lights Experience

Come with us and visit the place where actor Joanna Lumley saw the Northern lights and made her fantastic film. But we have as well different spots nearby, and will choose the best one depending on the weather.

Your guides will meet you at Reisafjord Hotel and will have suitable warm clothing available.

Spåkenes – Lyngen fjord

A sheltered spot on the east side of the Lyngenalps. Open terrain, coastal weather. This is the spot where actor Joanna Lumley saw the Aurora Borealis and made the fantastic film for UK television. Very low light pollution.

Kvænangsfjellet

A high altitude spot ca. 600m over sea level with a stunning view over the area.  Open terrain, with mountain and fjord surroundings.  Low light pollution.

Reisavalley

One of my favorite spots with no light pollution at all.  Beautiful surroundings – mountains, forrest, beautiful contrasts for photographers and only a short walk from the road (20 min).

Simavåg

Spot on the island of Kågen.  Tunnel connection to the island, coastal climate and low light pollution.

Because of the different spots nearby, we can quick react to different weather conditions and find the best spot with the best chance for northern lights. We check different sources online and in real-time to make the best decisions for the trip. All spots are about 30 min.by car from Reisafjord Hotel. We serve coffe/tea during the trip. Guests who only want to enjoy the northern lights get a free CD with pictures of the trip.   

Recommended gear: SLR camera, lens 10-20, 17-24,or similar, f2.8 or better, spare batteries, tripod, headlamp, gloves, warm wool hat.
